We would like to thank all the athletes, coaches and officials for their involvement and participation at the 2011 WAKO World

Championships in Semi Contact,Full Contact and Musical Forms. I would like to thank in particular the Kickboxing Ireland organizing

committee who worked tirelessly over the last number of months to ensure this would be a championship to remember and one Ireland would and could be proud of. Also the Kickboxing Ireland executive committee for their continuing support and guidance.

The championships attracted over forty countries and over 900 participants. Each day we started on time and finished on time, the excitement over the winners’ belt was infectious; we hope that other world and continental promoters follows this type of formula in the future. Putting fighters first in all aspects of your organization is key. We would also like to thank Horst Prelogue for his personal contribution in recognizing the important role the referees play in the success of the championships, by purchasing plaques for all referees Involved. Over the coming weeks we will be updating this site with Pictures and various media articles, so it will be a central reference point for our past and future championships. One of my personal favourite quotes comes to mind;

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could;some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon

                         Respectfully Yours,

                        Roy Baker,

                        President Kickboxing Ireland

                        WAKO Board Member

                        Vice president,

                         Irish Martial Arts Commission.

“The real glory is being knocked to your knees and then coming back.
That’s real glory. That’s the essence of it.” Vince Lombardi
as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense “
Ralph Waldo Emerson
In my opinion, the future is brighter for Irish Kickboxing, we have successfully hosted the 2011 World Championships, received significant media coverage, had several opportunities to meet with influential political figures over the week and get to know them on a personal level, giving them an understanding of the challenges being presented to the continual positive development of Kickboxing in Irelands, all n all a very good week for the sport we love.
